The work of Rafael José ARGUELLO, CNRS researcher in Philippe PIERRE's team at the Centre d'Immunologie de Marseille-Luminy (CIML), CNRS, Inserm and Aix Marseille University has shown that the speed at which ribosomes synthesize proteins influences the effectiveness of protein folding and the stability of mRNA. They have recently proposed it as a new means of regulating gene expression. Measuring this speed ex vivo, especially at the level of the single cell, is a real challenge.
