Philippe PIERRE, is the new Director of the Centre d'Immunologie de Marseille-Luminy and will be seconded by Dr Toby Lawrence, INSERM Research Director, as Deputy Director
After scientific studies in Strasbourg, Philippe Pierre joined the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) in Heidelberg, Germany and the University of Geneva in Switzerland to complete his doctorate in cell biology.
Ira Mellman at the School of Medicine at Yale University in the USA, where he studied the cellular biology of antigenic presentation, Philippe worked for three years as an associate research scientist at the same university, where he used his skills and continued his research in the field of dendritic cells, in collaboration with Prof. Dr. Ira Mellman. Ralph Steinman, Nobel Prize in Medicine 2011.
Philippe Pierre will be recruited at the CNRS in 1999, and since 2000, he has been leading the research team at the CIML entitled "Dendritic cell biology", in collaboration with Dr. Evelina Gatti.
The team's research focuses on the cellular biology of dendritic cells and the innate detection of microbes by the immune system.
Philippe Pierre's research work has led to numerous scientific publications in leading international journals.
The ambitious and innovative research projects of its team are financed by numerous national contracts.
He will be rewarded several times for the originality and importance of his research activity and will be a member of different scholarly societies.
In 2000, Schlumberger Foundation for Education and Research laureate; 2003, EMBO Young Investigator; 2015, Winner of the JM Le Goff Award from the Académie des Sciences; Member of Henry Kunkel and the French Society of Immunology (SFI).
He held the position of Deputy Director at CIML for 2 years.
Since January 1,2018, Philippe Pierre has been in charge of the CIML, with great pleasure.
Toby Lawrence, INSERM Research Director, will support him as Deputy Director for half his term.
