The team of Sophie UGOLINI, Research Director at Inserm and team leader at the Centre d'Immunologie de Marseille-Luminy, Inserm, CNRS and Aix-Marseille University describes new mechanisms of cooperation between the nervous system and the immune system in the response to pathogenic infections. This work, published in the journal Nature Immunology, highlights the brain's involvement in regulating the inflammatory response induced by the immune system in response to infection. It also reveals the protective effect of these neuroimmune interactions against the damaging effects of inflammation.
