The transposon is thus between two genes, upstream of one homologous to pmsC and downstream of a homologue of ybtD.
The respective homologues, for example, in E. coli, (see blast results), are not adjacent genes (see the entries for entC and entD at Colibri). For Vibrio cholerae, vibC (VC0773) and vibD (VC0780) are in the same gene cluster.
These pairs of genes are involved in the biosynthesis of the siderophores enterochelin and vibriobactin, respectively. Siderophores are responsable for iron uptake, often a limiting factor for bacterial growth and virulence (see this review by Braun, for example).
