The transposon is thus inserted in a gene that encodes a homologue of a two-component system sensor protein (see the Genbank entry for Xanthomonas axonopodis baeS).

This gene is downstream of a gene that encodes a homologue of a two-component system regulatory protein. This arrangement is conserved in Xanthomonas axonopodis, where the pair of genes are annotated as baeR and baeS, respectively. But in E. coli the order of these two is reversed (baeS being upstream of baeR; see the entry for baeS at Colibri), and this order is conserved for the orthologous proteins in multiple species (see the entry for this class of signal transduction histidine kinase at STRING). So the Xanthomonas axonopodis pair are probably not real baeR and baeS orthologues and there appears to be no functional information on this particular two-component system. On the other hand, it is interesting to see that the pair of genes immediately upstream of yeqS/b2086, are baeS and baeR (see entry for clone 8E2).
