Master in Immunology

Aim of this training is to prepare tomorrow’s key players in basic and applied immunology able to analyze, understand, and manipulate the immune system. The master proposes a single path targeting both talents for a research career, and specialists in immune technology operational for employment in public laboratories, companies and biotech. The master offers a solid hands-on training that benefits from the participation of institutional or private partners to the Marseille Immunopole cluster.

This 2 year programme teaches the fundamentals of immunology at the cellular and molecular level, and the dynamics of the immune system in physiological responses and in infectious and pathological situations through different levels of analysis (from the molecule to the organism) and multiple models (from animals to humans).
A 6 month internship in research labs or biopharmaceutical companies is compulsory during the second year

Master in Immunology

The Master in Immunology is part of the training provided at Aix-Marseille University. This two year program may be started in the first or second year. Involving teachers in immunology from the CIML, it provides a solid background in immunology including numerous practical exercises.

Practical sessions

  • Together with the theoretical workshops and lectures at the University, the program includes practical training (8 weeks in Master 1 and a lab rotation of 6 months in  Master 2)
  • Seminar series given by internationally renowned scientists are also part of the training
  • Under the exchange program with Harvard Medical School,  highly motivated students  have the opportunity to rotate in the laboratories of a research team from the prestigious American university (either for the final internship or for summer rotations)

Required level

  • This training is intended for students with a BSc in Life Sciences obtained in France or abroad and providing a solid knowledge in Cellular Biology, Molecular Biology and Biochemistry. The validation of a module in basic Immunology is mandatory.
  • The master recruits by selection on file; an interview can however be requested.
  • Completion of a Master (at minimum with honors) or an equivalent level of medical training (assessed on the basis of the provided dossier by the equivalence committee) is required to access at  Master 2.

Application Procedure

To apply, please visit Master Immunology. If you wish to join the CIML for the practical sessions of training please inform us on your enrollment by sending an e-mail to CIML education specifying the team you wish to apply for.

Master's Degree in Immuno-engineering (CMI)

An immunology specific training connected to the Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences and the Master in Immunology with the objective to train specialists in Immunology, Immunotherapy and Immuno-engineering, a field supported by its successes in diagnosis and therapy in cancer, autoimmune and infectious models.

CMI students should easily be professionally inserted in research and biotechnology companies specialized in these fields.

This five-year course, granting  a progressive and demanding university training  recognized by a national label, is developed in the image of international models and is structured according to the following components:

This five year track is developed accordingly to international models and implementing competence along the following main components:

  • The acquisition of a deep Specialization enabling to master the theoretical basis, the concepts and technological impacts of Immunology and its applications.
  • The acquisition of solid basis in core disciplines such as chemistry, mathematics, biochemistry, molecular biology, and genetics.
  • The familiarization with problem solving attitude via cross disciplinary approaches, learning based on activities of simulation and profound integration in the life of research laboratories, technological platforms and biotech.

The track Master of Engineering include internship in internationally renowned partner laboratories/universities.

PhD program at CIML
