CIML Unveils the Mysteries of the Immune System during Science Festival
As part of the Science Festival, the Centre d'Immunologie de Marseille-Luminy (CIML) successfully launched its educational campaign "Dive into the Heart of Our Immunity," offering high school students from Marseille a fascinating immersion into the world of our natural defenses. This innovative educational initiative allowed students from two schools in the Phocaean city to discover the secrets of the immune system, the protective shield of our organism. The program featured an engaging conference and interactive workshops that transformed complex scientific concepts into enriching and accessible experiences, guided by passionate researchers who shared their expertise and enthusiasm.
By opening its doors, CIML pursues two objectives: raising awareness among the younger generation about the crucial importance of immunology in our daily health and inspiring scientific vocations in students by allowing them to discover the exciting careers in research. Dr. Sandrine Roulland Awarded IFLI Idea Award for Follicular Lymphoma Research
The CIML (Inserm/CNRS/AMU) is proud to announce that Dr. Sandrine Roulland, Inserm Research Director and team leader at CIML, has been selected as a recipient of the prestigious Idea Award from the Institute for Follicular Lymphoma Innovation (IFLI).
This distinction, which is part of the Moonshot program launched in June 2023, recognizes scientific excellence and innovation in follicular lymphoma research. Dr. Roulland, in collaboration with Prof. Karin Tarte from the University of Rennes, has been selected for her innovative project titled "Hunting Cancer Precursor Cells (CPCs) at the Origin of Follicular Lymphoma Relapse." CIML is particularly delighted by this recognition, which highlights the excellence of research conducted within our institute. Dr. Roulland's project, which will receive initial two-year funding with the possibility of extension, will significantly contribute to our understanding of follicular lymphoma development and progression mechanisms.
The IFLI Idea Award aims to deepen our understanding of follicular lymphoma by focusing on the role of precursor cells. Using cutting-edge technologies, this research will explore the molecular mechanisms and pathways that lead to disease development, paving the way for innovative treatments.
i-Lab Award: CIML Spin-off Startup Recognized for Advances in Inflammatory Disease Treatment
The CIML is proud to announce that Temper Bio, co-founded by Sophie Ugolini, Inserm Research Director and team leader at CIML, has been awarded the prestigious i-Lab prize for its innovative project aimed at treating inflammatory diseases.
Temper Bio, co-founded and funded by Argobio Studio, is developing innovative analogues of the neurokine TAFA4 for breakthrough treatments of chronic inflammatory diseases. The award-winning program aims to expand the therapeutic potential of TAFA4 to neuroinflammation, an emerging therapeutic field addressing a significant medical need. This recognition highlights the excellence and potential of the research conducted by Sophie Ugolini and her team. This is the second major distinction within a year, following the securing of Impulscience funding. https://www.argobiostudio.com/en/portfolio/temper-bio

At the crossroads of biology and medicine, immunology is a scientific discipline that focuses on the operating mechanisms of the immune system. Appeared early in the evolution, this system enables living organisms to defend themselves against pathogens or their own components when they are altered. It involves a large number of cells whose capacity for cooperation, recognition and memory are far from having revealed all their secrets.
