Mauro GAYA, new member of the EMBO Young Investigators Programme

EMBO announces 24 scientists as the newest members of the EMBO Young Investigator Programme. The programme supports excellent group leaders who have been in independent positions for less than four years and have an excellent track record of scientific achievements.
The new EMBO Young Investigators will join the existing network of 135 current and 390 former members of the programme. They will receive financial and practical support for a period of four years, starting in January 2023.

FOR THE 7TH CONSECUTIVE YEAR, ERIC VIVIER AND BERNARD MALISSEN ARE AMONG THE MOST CITED RESEARCHERS IN THE WORLD

Eric VIVIER and Bernard MALISSEN, team leaders at the Marseille-Luminy Immunology Center, are on the 2022 list of the most cited researchers in the world for the seventh time, as in previous editions 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021.
Published annually by the prestigious Clarivate Analytics Company, previously Thomson Reuters, this ranking recognizes authors of the most frequently cited publications in the scientific community.
A recognition mark that rewards the value of their discoveries and the exceptional research influence in their scientific field.
Immune Cells Forget (Cell) Culture Shock
A recent study shows that certain immune cells can restore their normal functions when introduced back into the body, even after being multiplied in the laboratory to large numbers – the results pave the way to new cell therapies.
Macrophages are immune cells crucial for immune response, tissue repair, and the removal of cancer cells. Scientists see macrophages as promising living therapeutics.

Prof. Eric VIVIER, winner of the Departmental Research Prize in 2021
The Grand Prize is intended to reward a researcher and/or a research team that have distinguished themselves by remarkable results or achievements. Eric Vivier, Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, Doctor of Science, Professor of Immunology (Marseille Medical School and Assistance-Publique des Hôpitaux de Marseille), Chief Scientist Officer at Innate-Pharma S.A and researcher at the Marseille-Luminy Immunology Center, is the 2021 laureate for his research on the functions and regulatory mechanisms of innate immunity lymphocytes and their clinical manipulation.

At the crossroads of biology and medicine, immunology is a scientific discipline that focuses on the operating mechanisms of the immune system. Appeared early in the evolution, this system enables living organisms to defend themselves against pathogens or their own components when they are altered. It involves a large number of cells whose capacity for cooperation, recognition and memory are far from having revealed all their secrets.
